Conferences Will Serve to Showcase Noel Studio for Academic Creativity

Eastern Kentucky University’s Noel Studio for Academic Creativity will be showcased nationally next year when two organizations bring conferences to campus.

In spring 2012, the Noel Studio will be the hub for conferences of the National Association of Communication Centers and the Southeastern Writing Center Association.

The two conferences “will bring impressive scholars and administrators from around the country to EKU and the Noel Studio, with several hundred attendees,” said Studio Director Dr. Rusty Carpenter. “We’re fortunate and excited to bring both to campus.”

Carpenter, who recently received the Outstanding Newcomer Award from the NACC for his innovation, scholarship and intellectual work, mentoring and effectiveness, will chair both conferences. Concurrent sessions will be offered as much as possible in the Noel Studio and interactive sessions with Noel Studio staff members will be available along with breakout meetings in the Studio’s presentation suite, conference room and breakout spaces.

The Noel Studio is unique in its integration of services, all in a technologically sophisticated environment, designed to enhance students’ writing, speaking and research skills and inspire individual and collaborative learning.

“The conferences will provide wonderful professional development opportunities for our students, faculty and staff, including members of the Department of English and Theatre and Department of Communication,” Carpenter added.

The Studio bears the name of Ron and Sherrie Lou Noel, of Union, Ky., whose $1 million-plus gift helped make the $2.8 million facility possible.
