Construction on Noel Studio for Academic Creativity Continues; Staff Added
Construction on the Noel Studio for Academic Creativity, located inside the historic Crabbe Library entrance, has come a long way since the groundbreaking on Sept. 19, 2009. The Noel Studio space, with an anticipated August 2010 completion date, is steadily coming together—walls have come down, beams have been placed, and three new skylights were recently installed, allowing sunlight to flood into the future Noel Studio space. Dr. Russell Carpenter, director of the Noel Studio for Academic Creativity, is in the process of hiring three coordinators to oversee daily operations and work with undergraduate and graduate consultants as they guide their peers through every stage of the communication-development process. The first of these coordinators, Trenia Napier, was hired in January to serve as the Research Coordinator in the Noel Studio. A graduate of the University of Kentucky’s Master of Library Science Program, Napier will lead the Noel Studio’s efforts to integrate research with writing and speaking initiatives in the new dynamic space. As Research Coordinator, she will serve as a link between the Noel Studio and EKU Libraries, as well as represent the Noel Studio in presentations, workshops and information sessions alongside fellow coordinators representing writing and oral communications. She will collaborate with these fellow coordinators—and with student consultants—to create innovative spaces and services that will engage, inspire and support students in developing and honing research, writing and communication skills. The Noel Studio for Academic Creativity—a collaborative effort between the Library, the Department of Communication and the Department of English—will support EKU's QEP through its focus on developing graduates with effective critical and creative thinking, research and communication skills.
