How We Prepare for the Year

Job training. For those who have attended any kind of job training, you know how monotonous it can be. Necessary, but monotonous. Student employees at the Noel Studio take part in three days of intensive training (now known as the Noel Studio Institute or NSI) to prepare for the new school year. Graduate and undergraduate consultants along with Writing Fellows attend all three days of training with Desk Consultants partaking the last day. These three days are spent learning and experiencing a wide variety of topics including working with visual projects, consulting thesis statements, commenting on creative assignments, and consulting different types of written assignments as well as learning Noel Studio policies and procedures. Consultants and Writing Fellows attended several sessions as a large group and selected other sessions to attend based on their roles and interests during the conference-style institute.

Students who visit the Noel Studio immediately recognize that the space is special, different than other areas of campus, and they tend to enjoy spending time here, even when that time is spent working on class projects and studying. Our training happens right here, in the Noel Studio. Each space is utilized for various training activities employees take part in. Everyone gathered in the Greenhouse for breakfast each morning, then off to the conference room, Discovery classroom, and even the breakout spaces and practice rooms for sessions.

Along with intensive training in seminars, employees spent time getting to know one another through interactive activities. Much like the Noel Studio itself, NSI sessions were interactive and collaborative. To get to know your Noel Studio team, check out the People page and be sure to stop by to schedule a consultation or to book a space.
