New EKU Repository Archives Student Research

Students presenting at Scholarship Week 2014

During the Spring 2014 semester, the Noel Studio, in collaboration with the University Libraries and a committee composed of leaders from across campus, organized numerous academic events as part of Scholarship Week to celebrate student scholarship, research, and creative activities at EKU. The last day of Scholarship Week was devoted to the presentation of graduate and undergraduate student research posters, which were displayed in the library for interested students and faculty to investigate. Unfortunately, these posters were only available for a single day, a short testament to the weeks of research conducted by dedicated students.

In an attempt to capture the research of those students participating in Scholarship Week, the Noel Studio, in collaboration with the University Libraries, developed an online repository of undergraduate research posters, images, and interviews within the university’s Encompass system, which allows the university to preserve the efforts of past student poster presenters for the benefit of future researchers.

Encompass was originally developed in March 2012 to provide access to EKU theses and dissertations but has since grown to include many areas of scholarship and now student research posters. These resources are available not only to future generations of Eastern students but also researchers across the globe, enabling student research to reach greater audiences than ever before.

The EKU community is encouraged to use the Scholarship Week database as a means of accessing the work of their peers, which will hopefully inspire them to undertake research endeavors of their own. In addition to including valuable informational resources, the preserved student work provides examples of student scholarship at EKU. By including their research posters in the Encompass database, EKU students are increasing the accessibility of their important research and creative activity. Encompass enables a community of EKU scholars, past and present, to contribute to this scholarly repository.

Students can elect to showcase their research by contacting Linda Sizemore, the Copyright and Scholarly Communications Librarian, at linda.sizemore@eku.edu.
