Noel Studio Consultants Awarded SWCA Scholarships

The Noel Studio for Academic Creativity hosted the Southeastern Writing Center Association (SWCA) conference at Eastern Kentucky University from February 16-18, 2012. As part of the conference, SWCA awarded scholarships to student presenters on Saturday, February 18 in the Keen Johnson Ballroom.

Scholarships were awarded to students who promote the writing center field through research and reflection, in particular by contributing to the scholarly conversation in the field or extending writing center knowledge through their work. Criteria include:

·         relevance of topic to conference theme

·         potential impact of topic on writing center field

·         rigor of scholarship

·         innovations in writing centers

SWCA awarded the top ten student proposals with a scholarship for the students involved. Of the winners, eight Noel Studio consultants received scholarships based on their work at the SWCA conference:

Stacy F. Wilder, “Keeping up with the New Generation: Technology as Essential to the Life of the 21st Century Writing Center”

Susan MacDonell, Joseph Pruett, and David Jenkins, “Integrating Libraries with Writing Center Work”

Landon Berry, Pam Golden, Arie May, Dana McClain, and Stacy Wilder, “A Critical Thinking Training Model: Integrating the Intellectual Standards into Multimodal Composition Consultations”

Consultants were mentored by Trenia Napier, Noel Studio Research Coordinator, and Leslie Valley, Noel Studio Writing Coordinator.
