Noel Studio Consultants Present Research at SWCA-KY

During the Southeastern Writing Center Association’s statewide collaborative (SWCA-KY), held at the University of Kentucky, Noel Studio consultants presented research conducted in the Noel Studio for Academic Creativity.

During Wave A, the first of the day-long event, Emily Hensley and Meg Kirby, both graduate consultants in the Noel Studio, presented “#younoelit: Garnering Studio Publicity and Student Interaction through the Social Media Committee.” Hensley and Kirby examined the social media trends and analytics gathered from their work on the Noel Studio’s PR and Social Media Committee, chaired by Hensley.

During Wave B, the second session of the day, Rachel Winter, also a graduate student in the Noel Studio, presented “The "Flipped" Teaching Trend and Classroom Design: Implications for Writing Centers.” Winter’s research examines the flipped classroom movement and its connections to writing center work. Many spaces feature classrooms used for workshops and other collaborative efforts. Programming can benefit from understanding how flipped classrooms might enhance student learning by creating active-learning environments.

A portion of Winter’s research was recently published in the chapter “A Challenge for the Flipped Classroom: Addressing Spatial Divides” as part of the Implementation and Critical Assessment of the Flipped Classroom Experience collection. 

Noel Studio consultants design and take part in a variety of research projects each semester that enhance programming in the Noel Studio.
