Noel Studio Hosts IWCA Summer Institute

IWCA SI Participants in the Greenhouse

The 12th annual International Writing Center Association Summer Institute (IWCA SI), co-chaired by Drs. Russell Carpenter and Kevin Dvorak, took place in Lexington, Kentucky on June 22-27, 2014.

The IWCA SI continues an established tradition the International Writing Center Association began in 2003. This year, the Noel Studio for Academic Creativity and Eastern Kentucky University served as a host site for workshops, presentations, and other sessions that promote writing center scholarship and administration. Throughout the day, IWCA SI participants from across the globe learned and worked in the Noel Studio, focusing on topics such as creativity, multimodal composition, publishing, and community engagement in writing centers.

The IWCA SI brings together current or would-be writing center directors and assistants, writing program administrators, tutors, writing teachers (high school or college), curriculum developers, graduate students, new Ph.D.s, and academic leaders. Throughout the week, IWCA SI leaders offer presentations and discussions on a variety of writing center topics. Leaders also work one-on-one with participants throughout the week.
