Noel Studio Hosts SWCA-KY Statewide
On Friday, September 20, Eastern Kentucky University’s Noel Studio for Academic Creativity hosted the Southeastern Writing Center Association’s (SWCA) Kentucky Statewide. The Noel Studio is an institutional member of SWCA, an organization that was founded in 1981 to advance literacy; to further the theoretical, practical, and political concerns of writing center professionals; and to serve as a forum for the writing concerns of students, faculty, staff, and writing professionals from both academic and nonacademic communities in the Southeastern region of the United States. SWCA boasts an impressive membership and annually hosts a regional conference that attracts over 250 attendees from throughout the southeast.
The SWCA-KY Statewide was coordinated by Dr. Scott Whiddon of Transylvania University in his role as the organization’s Kentucky state representative. Each year, SWCA funds statewide events to promote writing center collaboration and conversation within its states.
This year, the SWCA-KY Statewide attracted more than 85 writing center directors, coordinators, and students from universities around the state, including EKU, Transylvania University, the University of Kentucky, the University of Louisville, Bellarmine University, Morehead State University, and many others. Attendees were treated to innovative workshops and discussions such as strategies for consulting multimodal projects.
SWCA will host its annual conference at East Carolina University on February 6-8, 2014. For more information about conference registration and proposal submissions, please visit the SWCA conference webpage. For more information about SWCA, please contact Dr. Russell Carpenter, SWCA Vice President.
