Noel Studio Kicks off Open Mic Series
On Friday, October 19th, the Noel Studio hosted the first of what will become a monthly open mic event to celebrate the National Day on Writing. Inspired by this year's theme, "What I Write," Noel Studio Graduate Assistant Matt Spencer planned and emceed the event.
"We knew we wanted to do something to celebrate the National Day on Writing," explained Noel Studio Coordinator, Leslie Valley, "and when I asked for ideas, Matt immediately suggested an open mic event and offered to help me plan it."
Matt opened the event with a poem about the analysis of poetry and read a couple of his own poems as well. The event closed with Caleb Dempsey-Richardson reciting original and unfinished song lyrics.
Newly-titled "3rd Friday," the open mic series will occur 3pm-5pm every third Friday of the month in the Noel Studio Greenhouse. Writers are encouraged to present any piece of creative writing, including poetry, short stories, and song lyrics.
