Noel Studio to Pilot Online Consultations in Spring 2013

Beginning in spring 2013, the Noel Studio will offer synchronous (real-time) consultations on a limited basis with pre-determined courses for EKU students taking classes online or at regional campuses, including Corbin, Danville, Hazard, Manchester, and Somerset, who cannot reasonably be expected to attend face-to-face consultations in the Noel Studio. All online consultations will originate from the Noel Studio.

Spring 2013 will serve as a pilot semester for the Noel Studio’s online consultation program, providing a venue for students to receive objective, peer-to-peer feedback on a variety of communication products including the following:

• Writing projects
• Multimodal projects
• Individual and group presentations
• Visual aids and slideshows
• Posters
• Cover letters
• Presentation slides

Similar to face-to-face consultations, those taking place online will help students

• think critically and creatively about their communication projects
• consider the project’s effectiveness for a particular audience, purpose, and context
• serve as a supportive and safe venue for students to share ideas, questions, and concerns with their communication projects

During the pilot phase, the Noel Studio will consult students from six pre-determined courses. For students taking courses as part of the pilot, you must schedule consultations at least two days in advance by calling 859-622-7330 or emailing noelstudio@eku.edu.

General Information about the Online Consultation Program Pilot

• Services will only be administered in real-time with audio and video through Adobe Connect with the student present and engaged virtually.
• Faculty should recommend usage of the Noel Studio’s online consultations for students on an individual basis rather than as a class requirement for all students.
• All online consultations are by appointment only. During the pilot phases, only students from select courses will have access to online consultations.
• Online consultations are for strong and struggling student communicators alike.
• There will be personnel at each regional campus site available to assist students with Adobe Connect if necessary.

From any computer with Internet access, students should be able to:

• Speak with your consultant via audio and video connection
• Revise your communication project along with your consultant via screen sharing
• Have instant access to Noel Studio handouts and other online resources.

How do I book an online consultation?

Note that consultations must be booked at least two days in advance. Please call the Noel Studio reception desk at 859-622-7330 or email noelstudio@eku.edu to schedule an online consultation.

A Noel Studio representative will send you a link to join the consultation about 24 hours in advance of your appointment time. You must access this link to join the consultation.
