Registration Now Available for Metacognition Events

Members of the EKU community can now register for the fall metacognition events. Metacognition is a process for thinking about the ways that we approach teaching and learning (or thinking about thinking). It helps us understand how students plan and learn best and then how classes can be designed to facilitate optimal learning experiences. Students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to register for the fall metacognition events:

“Metacognition: The Key to Acing Courses!”

Dr. Saundra McGuire will lead a workshop entitled “Metacognition: The Key to Acing Courses!” for students on Thursday, October 29, 2015from 6-8pm in Brock Auditorium. This workshop will provide you with strategies for experiencing meaningful, transferable learning, which will help you to be more successful in courses. You can register in advance at http://studio-old.eku.edu/dr-mcguire-student-registration, although walk-ins are welcome. Proof of attendance will be available.

8:30-11:30am – “Getting Students to Focus on Learning Instead of Grades: Metacognition is Key!”

12:30-2:30pm – “Approaches for Teaching Metacognitive Strategies to Individuals and Groups”

Please note that faculty may attend both sessions; however, if they can only attend part of the day, they are strongly encouraged to attend the morning session. The afternoon session is a follow-up that will assume knowledge of information discussed in the morning session.
