What is the purpose of the Noel Studio for Academic Creativity’s Online Consultation Program?

The Noel Studio for Academic Creativity’s Online Consultation Program serves the online EKU community as a collaborative, innovative learning experience dedicated to the improvement of communication processes.

How do I recommend the Noel Studio for Academic Creativity’s Online Consultations to my students?

Consider mentioning in your feedback to students: “Your project would have been more convincing if you had supported your argument with documentation. For your next project, consider scheduling an online consultation with the Noel Studio to discuss strategies for integrating research into your work.”

Students are more likely to incorporate feedback from their Noel Studio online consultations if they have adequate time to reflect on their experience. Please encourage students to be proactive by scheduling Noel Studio online consultations with plenty of time to spare before their assignment is due.

The Noel Studio for Academic Creativity is a free resource for the online EKU community, including graduate and undergraduate students. During Noel Studio online consultations, a trained Online Consultant will work with you or your small group on any piece of communication, at any stage in the process from brainstorming to finished product.

Full Syllabus Recommendation:

The Noel Studio for Academic Creativity is a free resource for the online EKU community, including graduate and undergraduate students.

The Noel Studio offers individual or group online consultations: a trained Online Consultant will spend up to 60 minutes with you reviewing your project and discussing your ideas. You can schedule an online consultation with the Noel Studio at any point in the communication-development process, even if you don’t have anything substantial yet. Your online consultation will be most helpful if you:

Prepare questions/ideas/strategies in advance:

Identifying specific questions and/or areas of focus will help you and your Online Consultant make the most of your consultation.

Actively participate in the consultation:

Online Consultants use collaborative and creative strategies for learning. You will discuss your project with the Online Consultant and participate in brainstorming, drafting, and revision activities.

Allot time to reflect and revise after the online consultation:

Identify the possibilities raised during the online consultation that are helpful to you and leave enough time to reflect on and refine your project and ideas.

Noel Studio Online Consultants will help with projects in any subject or form, including traditional essays, research papers, proposals; out-of-class projects such as scholarship applications, graduate school applications, and business letters; multimedia such as digital narratives, videos, podcasts, and online portfolios; and oral presentations, conference talks, and panel presentations. After each online consultation, you will receive email verification of your visit with a summary of what was discussed.

Online consultations are available via appointment only. Please remember that the Noel Studio Online Consultants do not write, proofread, or grade projects, and will not review projects ahead of the consultation.
